Chrysler Building

An art deco marvel, built in the bustling late 1920's, specifically at the time when companies were racing to build the highest skyscraper, the Chrysler Building has stood the test of time as an icon. It had a moderate construction time of roughly two years, September 1928 to May 1930. The Chrysler Building was meant to be the tallest structure in the world, surpassing the Eiffel Tower.

Designed by architect William Van Alen, it has a height of 1,046 ft with the spire (925 ft without) and a total of 77 floors. Famous LIFE magazine photographer Margaret Bourke-White is known to have lived on the 61st floor.

An interesting feature is its Art Deco facade, seen below. The building has some architectural points modeled after the car, Chrysler, most notably, the gargoyles which were inspired by a car hood ornament.
